A wedding nightmare became reality when a caterer failed to show up at a reception in Western Australia. In another case, 60 guests at a 40th birthday party were left feeling peckish when staff from the same company arrived four hours late, undercooked food and switched items on the menu. The man celebrating his birthday in October 2018 had paid almost $5000 for a chef and two waiters to prepare and serve a feast of tapas, paella and churros over a five-hour period. “On the night, the chef arrived at 8pm and only one waiter turned up so, as a result, some of the food ordered was not provided and some was undercooked,” WA’s consumer protection commission said this week. “Instead of the churros, 12 caramel slices for 60 guests was purchas…

A guest at the party said the unprofessional service had ruined the event.

You rushed the service, your vegetarian paella was uncooked, the rice was still crunchy and it was just slopped into paper bowls, she said.

A month later, the company failed to show up to a wedding celebration in Margaret River.

The mother of the bride, Anne Williams, said the couple had hired Ol Paella Catering after meeting with Mr Lamb at his Fremantle Markets stall and enjoying the company’s food at another wedding.

Wed booked the caterer to provide paella for quite early in the afternoon, straight after the ceremony, she said.

Hed been booked for months and fully paid and he just didnt turn up.

Long-time Express Print & Mail owners Matthew and Wendy Chadwick are running the business, which has 52 staff. Wendy Chadwick said Covid-19 trading issues, and the cost and uncertainty of an ongoing claim by the former owner of Chameleon Press, meant that a move was needed to secure the business and the livelihood of employees, while ensuring suppliers were paid in full.

Discount retailer Century 21 announced on Sept. 10 it was filing for bankruptcy and would closeall 13 of stores, mostly in the northeastern US. The company blames its financial demise on its insurance, which didnt pay to insulate Century 21 from business interruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Its far from the only retailer to have suffered similar losses over the past six months. Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, JC Penney, Lord & Taylor, Muji, and Neiman Marcus are among those that declared bankruptcy as Covid-19 has transformed the industry.

And yet, Century 21 is one of the few thatsaid that it will completely shut down. The rest plan to restructure their debts, close money-losing stores, and continue operation. What determines whe…

Policymakers are gambling that they will be able to pay back the large increases in national debt accrued in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As Covid-19 brought economies to a standstill, many governments threw a lifeline to businesses and households in the form of fiscal support, but putting public debt back on a sustainable path is likely to mean higher taxes and less government spending in the future.

That was the message from an economist at the virtual Bermuda Captive Conference.

Henk Potts, director, investment strategy, at Barclays Private Bank, also said there could also be an acceleration in deglobalisation as a result of the health crisis.

Mr Potts said governments around the world had altered their fiscal policies to deal …

After Stumptown secured a second season renewal last May, Deadline brings word that ABC has decided to reverse their decision by officially cancelling the Cobie Smulders-led action drama after one season. According to the outlets sources, the decision was made due to scheduling conflicts related to the production start which were caused by the ongoing pandemic. Investors said the deal gives Scentre balance sheet flexibility as it navigates through the disruption to its rent collection, battles with tenants, flat sales and the drop in the value of its malls.

Scentre reported a $3.6 billion interim loss which was driven by a reduction of $4 billion in value across its malls.

The Westfield malls’ owner said the cash from the raising would be used to shore up its balance sheet, repay shorter-term debt facilities and provide funding for longer-term security as it battles the impact on its business from the global pandemic.

The owner of the overseas-based Westfield malls, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, on Wednesday separately announced it was also undertaking a 9 billion ($14.5 billion) balanc…

Thai Airways request for debt restructuring as part of bankruptcy proceedings was approved by a bankruptcy court on Monday.

Earlier this year, the national airline was seeking a 58.1 billion baht ($1.81 billion) loan from the government to help it through the coronavirus crisis. Thai officials told the airline to come up with a restructuring plan instead to avoid bankruptcy.

Thailands Central Bankruptcy Court approved a seven-member committee to come up with the restructuring plan.

According to Reuters, the airline needs to restructure 245 billion baht ($7.83 billion) worth of debt.

The airline says it will prepare a business reorganisation plan as soon as possible and propose the plan to the local court within the fourth quarter of thi…
