Just days after their Belgian counterparts, the Dutch constituents of FNG have also been declared bankrupt. According to the fashion group, its chains like Miss Etam, Expresso and Claudia Strter will stand a better chance of a second life this way.

When the Belgian branches filed for bankruptcy, the Dutch chains settled for demanding protection against creditors, but just days later they still went for full bankruptcy. A trustee, Kees van de Meent, has been appointed to lead the process of rescuing as large a part as possible from the shipwrecked company.

FNG claims the bankruptcy filing has been made “for technical-judicial reasons, mostly”, giving the chains a better chance in the future. Several interested partie…

President Trump is considering using his executive powers to aid student loan borrowers.

President Trump said in a tweet Thursday that he is looking into using his executive powers to continue providing help for those with student loans during the pandemic. Its unclear if he has the authority or if it was simply a move to try to break the logjam in congressional negotiations over another coronavirus relief bill.

As congressional leaders have struggled in recent days to resolve differences over unemployment benefits in the next aid package, the president had signaled that he is considering using his executive powers to continue providing help for those without jobs, delay collecting payroll taxes and continue a moratorium on evictions. Bu…

Learfield IMG College, the multimedia business that owns broadcast rights for many of the countrys leading collegiate sports programs, is preparing for a possible financial restructuring as the coronavirus pandemic curtails athletics nationwide, according to people familiar with the matter.

Divorce, like any big life event, can impact both partners’ finances.

In 2015, freelance writerMiranda Marquitwalked away from her divorce with a little bit more than $15,000 in joint debt. She made smallautomatic paymentson the accounts for the first couple of years, but in 2018 she decided to become serious about getting rid of it.

She answered a flyer she received in the mail offering a debt consolidation loan at a low 2.9% interest rate.

“It was kind of sneaky in my opinion,” Marquit tells CNBC Select. “I hadexcellent creditat the time, so I thought it was a slam dunk. I went through and used my ‘special code’ and I got some response about a program that would fit my needs.”

Marquit thought she was signing up for was a debt con…

A home loans company that previously operated in Townsville is being liquidated with creditors expected to be paid in full.

Platinum Business Services Pty Ltd, trading as Townsville Home Loans, was placed in liquidation in May through a creditor’s voluntary winding up application.

Liquidators in the central Queensland division of Worrells Solvency & Forensic Accountants in Rockhampton are handling the matter.

Worrells central Queensland partner Michael Beck said the liquidation had been initiated by the bankruptcy trustee of the company’s director, Patrick Edward Leach.

Mr Beck said the business, which had operated from offices in Flinders St, had not traded for some time with its most recent loan written in 2017.

Crown prosecutor Raelene Sharp opposed bail, arguing the possible risk of flight and interference with witnesses.

She told the court Mr Alex, a declared bankrupt, has allegedly run businesses using a wide network of people to operate companies “on his behalf … from a paper perspective.”

His access to such networks pointed to “means and ability to effect an escape if on bail.”

It was these networks and more that allegedly made up the “jigsaw puzzle” of offending at the centre of a syndicate linked to a $17.5 million tax fraud.

However, Magistrate Margaret Quinn ultimately found strict bail conditions proposed by defence lawyers for Mr Alex mitigated any risks of his release on bail.

“Naturally these matters are very, very complex. He…
