MUMBAI: Consumer goods-to-real estate conglomerate Godrej could see a restructuring as differences have surfaced between family members over the way forward for the 122-year-old, $5-billion enterprise. Group chairman Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir Godrej are on one side while cousins Jamshyd Godrej and Smitha Godrej Crishna are on the other.

A TV report said the clan is also split over the development of a 1,000-acre land parcel they own in Mumbai.

Investment banker Nimesh Kampani and lawyer Zia Mody are advising Jamshyd Godrej while Kotak Mahindra Banks chief Uday Kotak and Cyril Shroff of legal firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas are assisting Adi Godrej. A Godrej group spokesperson declined to comment. However, people familiar with the …

Colby Covington was recently booked to face Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC on ESPN 5, set for Sat., Aug. 3, 2019 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Chaos was in line to get the next Welterweight title fight against Kamaru Usman, but since The Nigerian Nightmare is still recuperating from injury, his return wont come until later this year.

While disappointed he wont be able to put hands on Colby right away, Usman says he isnt too surprised Chaos found a way to ruin their championship showdown. And its all due to his ever-growing gambling debt, according to Kamaru.

I literally smacked my head like this kid f***s it up again, again. I said from the start, this was going to be his fight to mess up and that is exactl…

German TV Company Loewe which is 96 years old has called in the administrators, but insiders are tipping that a new look Company could emerge as investors snap up assets and investors take advantage of the strength of the Loewe name and history.

In Australia the brand is distributed by Indi Imports.

According to people that ChannelNews has spoken to Loewe was haemorrhaging cash, not because of poor sales but because of a bloated work force that the Company inherited when the business was acquired by investors in 2014.

In Australia Loewe has doubled sales during the past 12 months via their relationship with Indi Imports sales are also booming across Europe and Russia and in the UK.

ChannelNews has been told by insiders in Europe that the…

Opening an addiction clinic is a sad indictment of our efforts to shield the young from gambling

Britain is a country of gamblers. There is Ascot, there is the National Lottery, and there were Winston Churchills routinely unlucky streaks in Monte Carlo (on one visit he lost the equivalent of 90,000). Lucian Freud once painted a picture of a baby gorilla to settle a particularly enormous gambling debt. The first scene in the first James Bond movie was set in a casino. And now this nation of high rollers and punters and card sharps has entered a new chapter. It is opening a gambling addiction clinic. For children.

A clinic is needed; charities have long been pushing for something of this …

When you start a new job, youre inundated with paperwork but leaving one small box unticked could result in a nasty surprise bill.

Department of Education and Training figures reveal 2.9 million Australians had outstanding Higher Education Loan Program (HELP, formerly HECS) debts in 2017-18.

Thats a significant jump from the 2.7 million who had a HELP debt the year prior and as more and more of us turn to higher education, that statistic is only likely to grow in future.

But according to Ben Johnston from leading Sydney accounting firm Willett Johnston Partners, many employees get caught out by their HELP debt by failing to declare it when they start a new job.

Bathstore will continue to trade from its 135 stores in the UK, all of which are at risk of closure, while in administration. The business has appointed BDO to attempt to find a buyer. Ryan Grant, BDO business restructuring partner, said: “Despite significant investment into the business over the past five years, Bathstore has struggled to overcome the well-documented challenges facing the UK retail sector. The appointment was made after several months of difficult trading, and the failure of ongoing talks to find a buyer for the business.

Bathstore is continuing to trade in administration whilst the administrators seek a buyer.”

It was reported last week how Bathstore, which employs 531 people, was on the verge of appointing administrator…

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission urged Justice Melissa Perry to award a penalty in the range of $2 to $2.5 million as a deterrent to this kind of breach, which could undermine the integrity of the Indigenous arts sector.

Such conduct puts at risk an array of economic and social benefits which are vital to Indigenous communities. It is also liable to cause offence and cultural harm to Australian Aboriginal persons, the ACCC said in a submission.

Birubi resolved to enter voluntary liquidation on October 29, 2018.

In June this year, the Koori Mail reported that WAM Clothing was pursuing the Aboriginal owners over copyright violations.

An Australian business caught selling fake Aboriginal art has been fined $2.3 million dollars in a federal court ruling today, highlighting a thriving black-market that exploits and expropriates Indigenous culture.

Brisbane company Birubi Art was found to have breached Australian consumer law and to have misled its customers by promoting products as genuine Aboriginal art when thousands of its pieces were in fact made in factories in Indonesia.

The penalty is the largest of its kind ever awarded by the Federal Court and comes after a 2018 60 Minutes investigation that exposed the Australian businesses importing fake artefacts from Indonesia to sell in Australian souvenir stores.

Insurance Australian help debt student Higher Education Loan Program repayments
An estimated 3 million Australians could be impacted by upcoming changes to superannuation.

By now, potentially three million Australians are in the process of having life and disability insurance stripped out of their superannuation accounts.

From July 1, super funds will be required to cancel default life insurance policies in funds where members have not made a contribution for 16 months, unless members took the decision to opt in to the policy or reactivate the account.

For some the lack of insurance premiums coming out of their accounts will be a blessing preserving their retirement savings for longer and preventing forgotten accounts of slowly being drained all of the way to zero.
