The North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday granted an order for the provisional liquidation of the company that owns The New Age newspaper.
This after Mzwandile Manyi and his company AfroTone Media Holdings made an application to the court last week. Manyi argued that the company was commercially unviable.
Manyi bought the company from the controversial Gupta family last year and had just rebranded The New Age newspaper to Afro Voice. Last month the newspaper closed down.

The low-cost carrier said Monday that higher fuel costs, rising wages and strikes by pilots and regional air traffic controllers had caused its first quarter profit to drop 20% over the previous year.
Ryanair (RYAAY) has been giving pilots raises since recognizing the right of unions to negotiate on their behalf for the first time in December. Staff costs climbed 34% in the three months ended June 30.
Adding to the pressure on its business, strikes by regional air traffic controllers caused “widespread damage” and forced the airline to cancel over 2,500 flights in the first quarter.

One of Macarthurs most recognisable businesses has entered voluntary administration.
Administrators were appointed to Hennings Jewellers at the end of June.
The jewellery chain has been a part of the Macarthur community for almost 90 years and had four stores in the region: Argyle Street Camden, Macarthur Square, Narellan Town Centre and Oran Park Podium.
The Macarthur Square store has already closed its doors, however the other three stores are still trading.
Hennings was still offering lay-buy options as recently as Monday.
The business has been owned and managed by Craig Moore since 2010.

Jawwad Ansar was the sole director of Cheap Flight House Limited (CFH). The company was incorporated on 8 November 2010 before being purchased by Jawwad Ansar on 15 February 2017, the same day he took over as sole director of the company.
However, the company went into liquidation on 10 March 2017, 23 days after Mr Ansar took over the company, having traded since 2010 with declared creditors of £5.5m and a declared book debt of £2m due from sub agents.
Jawwad Ansar told investigators from the Insolvency Service, who were looking into the affairs of the company following liquidation, that outstanding funds were due as a result of flights booked by sub agents of the company.

A man and woman have been sentenced to jail after police discovered 132 cannabis plants at a Werribee house last year.
In the County Court last month, Cuong Thanh Nguyen, 25, pleaded guilty to one charge of cultivating cannabis not less than a commercial quantity.
The court heard Nguyen was living in Treeve Street when he helped set up and maintain a cannabis crop between August 28 and November 6 last year.
Police executed a warrant at the house and found Nguyen and a woman, Anh Thi Duong living there.
Nguyen, originally from Vietnam, had overstayed his visa and was remanded in custody after being arrested.
