New Delhi: Russia’s VTB Capital-backed Numetal Ltd, which is in the race to acquire Essar Steel, on Monday alleged that rival ArcelorMittal India Ltd is not eligible to bid for the debt-ridden company under the IBC as it was the promotor of two defaulting companies Uttam Galva and KSS Petron.

During the proceedings of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), Numetal submitted that as per the rules of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (IBC), ArcelorMittal should have first cleared the dues by making upfront payment before submitting its resolution plan for Essar Steel.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Numetal said that although ArcelorMittal has offered to pledge Rs 7,000 crore in an escr…

India: The Supreme Court has ordered the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) to adjudicate upon all issues relating to the Binani Cement insolvency case, including whether Ultratech Cements bid for the company is eligible. The case will be heard by the appeals tribunal from mid-July 2018, according to the Mint newspaper. The NCLAT is the body that processes appeals from the National Company Law Tribunal, a legal body that adjudicates disputes between companies.

ATHENS, July 1 (Xinhua) — Most Greeks question the two agreements the government reached in June this year on the Greek debt relief and the resolution of the Macedonia name row, according to a new survey released this weekend.

The 51 percent of respondents in the Metron Analysis poll conducted for “Ta Nea” (The News) newspaper viewed negatively the comprehensive deal on the new debt relief ahead of Greece’s exit from the eight-year bailouts era this August.

According to pollsters, Greeks fear that the commitments undertaken will not help the growth of Greek economy. Participants remained pessimistic about the economic situation, with 53 percent stating that they were struggling more compared to la…

Ailing regional airline JetGo may have been trading insolvent for almost two years before it filed for administration, during which time it set up a number of new regional flight routes including those in and out of the Illawarra.

The report to creditors  who are owed about $38 million with most unlikely to receive a cent if the company is wound up this week, as recommended  reveals a damning picture of the airlines financial health over several years.

In a report to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), administrator Jonathan McLeod said his firms analysis of the companys balance sheets showed the airline may have traded while insolvent since at least June 30, 2016.

ATHENS, July 2 (Reuters) – Relief measures agreed with Greeces official creditors to help render its debt load sustainable will help smoothen the countrys return to market financing, the Bank of Greece said in a monetary policy report on Monday.

But it warned that in the longer term, debt sustainability hinges on maintaining the fiscal and reform effort and further debt relief.

The Bank of Greece stuck to its recommendation for a precautionary line of credit after Greece exits its bailout programme in August and maintained its 2.0 percent growth forecast for this year. (Reporting by George Georgiopoulos, Michele Kambas and Renee Maltezou)
