The Australian Taxation Office bid to wind up the company behind Damian Griffiths’ Les Bubbles restaurant has been dismissed after the company went into liquidation on Thursday.

The matter was heard briefly in The Federal Court in Brisbane on Friday where Registrar Katie Lynch dismissed a wind-up application filed by the ATO in November last year.

Bubbles Bar & Bistro was ordered to pay $3131 in costs.

Deloitte partner David Orr had been appointed liquidator of the company, the court heard.

Bubbles Bar & Bistro is the company behind Fortitude Valley steakhouse and bar Les Bubbles, which opened its doors in 2015.

The Wickham Street restaurant building formerly operated…

Petra Hair Care has collapsed into liquidation after 52 years in business.

The chain started business as a hairdressing salon in Melbourne’s Elizabeth Street in July 1966 where it became apparent there was a market for selling hair care to the home.

Soon the salon was moved upstairs and the ground floor was selling only hair care.Petra Hair Care grew to five stores located in major shopping centres in Melbourne with qualified hairdressers selling products.

But the company went into liquidation this week with Con Kokkinos of Worrells Solvency & Forensic Accountants appointed as liquidator.

Kokkinos says though it is still early in the liquidation process…

A Natrona County resident will face trial on charges he forged checks for nearly $20,000 from his elderly mother-in-law while her husband was dying.

Roy Davis waived his preliminary hearing before Natrona County Circuit Court Judge Brian Christensen on Thursday, and he will have his arraignment in District Court probably in a few weeks.

Davis first appeared in circuit court for an initial appearance on Jan. 24, where he was initially charged with two felony counts: exploitation of a vulnerable adult and receiving stolen property valued at more than $1,000.

Monday, he heard 35 additional counts of forgery during a second initial appearance.

Davis’ public defender Kerri Johnson asked, and Circuit Court Judge Steve Brown agreed to lower his bo…

The company overseeing The Outdoor Furniture Specialists chain has gone into voluntary administration amid increasingly challenging times for the retail sector as online competition escalates and more international entrants shore up.

The Brisbane-based firm is the head franchisor for 46 stores in Australia and claims to be the largest specialist outdoor furniture retailer in the country. The company was incorporated in 1990 and is based in Kedron, Australia.

Sydney-based insolvency specialists Anthony Elkerton and Justin Holzman were appointed joint and several voluntary administrators of the company last week.

The parent company of a franchised outdoor furniture business that lists 27 stores on its website has fallen into the hands of administrators, as insolvency experts say the rough start to 2018 for the retail sector is something everyone should have seen coming.

Anthony Elkerton and Justin Holzman of DW Advisory were appointed as voluntary administrators to The Outdoor Furniture Specialists Pty Ltd, the parent company of The Outdoor Furniture Specialists brand, on January 24.

The company, which lists close to 30 showrooms on its website, is a franchised operation with a retail presence in all Australian states.

DW Advisory confirmed to SmartCompany this morning that it has only been appointed to the parent company and not any ind…

Brierty may have been insolvent nearly four months before it went under in early September, according to a disputed assessment by administrators.

In their report to creditors, the administrators from KPMG said the civil contractor may have become insolvent on 16 May … but more likely by July 1.

However, KPMG noted that its assessment had still to be confirmed and was disputed by Briertys directors Dalton Gooding, Richard OShannassy and Ray Bushnell.

In an extract from a letter included in the creditors report, the directors said they exercised care and diligence, in conjunction with the executive management, in monitoring the financial status of the company, including cashflow forecasts.

KPMGs view on the date of Briertys insolvency is ba…

WA home builder Choice Livings decision to call in business recovery and insolvency specialists is bittersweet for would-be Caversham residents Geraldine and Jonathan Hinds.

We were the first in October 2014 to buy a house block on our street, Mrs Hinds said.

Ours is the last house on the street to be built. Everyone else has moved in around us.

She said that in April the couple would have been paying for rent, a mortgage and storage for three years.

We signed our contract with Choice Living in June 2015, the slab went down in November and we were told our dream home would be completed by September 2016, Mrs Hinds told The West Australian.

Since then I have been given seven practical completion dates. Financially, its been so stressful.

I real…

Music streaming service Pandora said this week it plans to move an unspecified number of workers to Atlanta as part of a broader restructuring of its business.

The Oakland, Calif.-based company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing it will cut 5 percent of its workforce as part the restructuring plan, which it expects will result in about $45 million in annual cost savings. The changes, in addition to cutting costs, will focus on advertising technology and audience development.

Pandora competes in the crowded streaming music business against rivals such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon. The company said in November it had 5.2 million total subscribers, of which 1 million were paid users of its premium service.
