Mr Justice Toni Abela has provisionally upheld a request for injunction by Air Malta against ALPA, the airline’s pilots union.

On Sunday, Air Malta said it had filed an urgent warrant of prohibitory injunction in the courts of law. The airline said that a conflict arose between the chief officer of flight operations and the publications officer, both pilots, after the former asked the latter for flight manuals, but the request was refused. The airline said on Sunday that these documents are the property of the airline and fall under the exclusive responsibility of the Chief Officer Flight Operations. “The airline took note of the altercation between t…

A European Court trial could decide whether authorities in the union can help Denmark to collect outstanding student loans from EU citizens. But the issue remains complicated.

Though increasing numbers of EU citizens are drawing Danish state student loans, (statens uddannelsesstøtteslån or SU-lån in Danish), the Copenhagen government remains unable to determine whether debts will actually be repaid, reports newspaper Politiken.

Under EU law, citizens of other member states are entitled to draw the loan while studying in Denmark.

But Denmark is currently unable to force repayments of invoices sent to individuals once they have returned to their home countries.

It is beyond all doubt that it is unacceptable that …

Carillion, one of the UK’s largest construction companies, now faces being wound up.

Its collapse through an application for compulsory liquidation means the company will eventually be dissolved, with creditors sharing any money from the sale of its assets.

The decision to effectively declare itself bust leaves 43,000 jobs worldwide hanging in the balance though there is some hope that many in the sprawling business will keep their jobs albeit through Carillion’s work being transferred.

:: Background

Carillion was created in 1999 by the famous road surfacing business Tarmac in a demerger.

The Wolverhampton-based company employed almost half its workers – 19,500 people – in the UK.

As recently as 2 January, the company celeb…
