NCLT reserves order on SBIs insolvency proceedings against the infrastructure firm

IVRCL Limited, once one of the fastest growing infrastructure companies, and which ruled the sector for nearly two decades, today faces an uphill task to get back its mojo, bogged down as it is by piles of debt.

The latest move to bring the Hyderabad-based company back to normalcy is by the State Bank of India, which has initiated corporate insolvency proceedings to recover dues, and to possibly find a way out of the current mess.

The news of SBI invoking the provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016 (IBC) pushed the stock up to 6.45, up by 4.88 per cent.

The Bank has initiated the process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016 and filed an application under Regulation 7 of the Code with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The hearing on the application was held on January 8 and the orders were reserved, IVRCL said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.

According to the financial results for the quarter ended September, announced in November, the company had incurred net loss of Rs. 280.58 crore for the quarter. The accumulated losses stood at Rs. 2,708.74 crore resulting in erosion of its networth. In the notes accompanying the results, the company said it…

OUTDOOR adventure gear company Mountain Designs has made the difficult decision to close one in three stores in 2018.

Shops at Joondalup, Wagga Wagga, Toowong and Dubbo closed on January 7 followed by branches at Cannington, Bendigo, Toowoomba and Wollongong on January 10, according to a statement from the company.

Stores at Pacific Fair, Ashmore, Bunbury, Moorabbin and Warringah will also close, although a date is yet to be confirmed.

Like many Australian retail businesses at present, Mountain Designs is adapting to changing pressures within the retail sector that are influencing customer buying practices, the statement read.

A liquidation company will be auctioning off assets from the former Saskatchewan Transportation Company starting next month.

Everything from power tools to file cabinets will be sold through an online auction run by Hilco Industrial out of Ontario. The province sold the assets to the international liquidation company in December, saying it was the most-affordable option.

The auction opens Feb. 1.

  • Walmart also announced Thursday that it would close 63 Sams Club stores in a move that would impact roughly 9,400 employees.

Walmart is reportedly cutting thousands of store manager positions and adding new lower-paid positions, Bloomberg reports.

GKN is splitting its aerospace and automotive businesses in an effort to resist an unwelcome takeover approach from turnround specialist Melrose Industries that values the company at £8bn including debt. 

Shares in the FTSE 100 group soared on the back of the approach from Melrose, which has proposed an offer made up of 80 per cent equity and 20 per cent cash. The proposal values GKN at 405p a share, based on Melroses closing price on January 5. GKN shares jumped 26 per cent to 419p, while shares in Melrose closed 5 per cent higher at 226.5p. 

GKNs board dismissed the proposal as entirely opportunistic and said the terms fundamentally undervalue the company and its prospects.

Rare Asset Reconstruction Pvt Ltd.s resolution plan got approval of 14.31 percent of the financial creditors against the minimum requirement of 75 percent.

The employees of the company, who feared liquidation and loss of livelihood, sought to repay the secured lenders and address issues of all other stakeholders, the order said. Chief Commercial Officer Pawan Kumar noted that the company had 1,178 employees and workers and it had started making profits.

The resolution plan, however, was submitted on Dec. 30, just two days before the 270-day deadline, and couldnt be considered by the committee of creditors.
