Roughly $2 million worth of merchandise from bankrupt local retailer Prestige Appliance will be liquidated starting Saturday morning at the companys Aiken showroom and warehouse.

A similar sale begins Tuesday at its Columbia, S.C., store, according to Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Liquid Asset Partners on behalf of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court trustee assigned to the Chapter 7 case.

Its a standard liquidation sale with discounts that continue to increase until everything is sold, Liquid Asset Partners President Bill Melvin said Friday. These are high-end appliances that dont normally get discounted, so this is a huge opportunity for someone looking to do a remodel or a build.

Aiken-based Prestige filed for bankruptcy p…

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Sears Holdings Corp. is closing more than 100 stores around the country, including the Sears in Bismarck and the Kmart in Devils Lake.

The company says employees at 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores were notified Thursday that it was closing the stores between early March and early April. Company officials say liquidation sales could start as early as late next week.

The company says it’s closing unprofitable stores as it transforms its business model. Affected employees will be given severance and the opportunity to apply for open positions at other stores.

The Institute of International Finance has warned of heavy emerging market redemptions noting that over $1.5 trillion of bonds and syndicated loans would be maturing through to the end of 2018.

China, Russia, Korea and Brazil have a heavy dollar-debt repayment schedule this year with the Asian superpowers debt becoming an increasing concern for other members of the global economic family.

China, which has accounted for the lions share of new debt in emerging markets, saw the pace of debt accumulation slow slightly; the deficit rose by two percentage points last year to 294 per cent of GDP, compared to an average annual increase of 17 percentage points in the 2012-2016 period.

However, despite the growing debt mountain, the IIF said on Thur…

Next year, luxury fashion group Oroton is due to turn 80.

One needs only to think back to the days when mum or granny carried those Oroton silver or gold Glomesh bags on a big night out to get a sense of brand nostalgia.  Whether it survives to mark the occasion now rests with the success of negotiations between a corporate doctor and a group of retail landlords.

The placement of Oroton into the hands of voluntary administrators looks like a worrying omen – not just for other retailers –  but for the retail landlords that have been likened more to overlords by many in the retail community.

Michael Farmers Red Kite, which once dominated global copper markets, is being overhauled, according to filings at Companies House.

RK Capital Management LLP, the management company that runs the Red Kite funds, is in the process of a restructuring review which may impact its activity in future years, the January filing said.

The process is still ongoing and its not clear what its conclusions will be, according to a person close to the fund. Red Kite co-founder David Lilley is also setting up his own fund, called Drakewood Capital Management, filings show.

In the past year Red Kite has moved away from trading physical copper towards mine finance and mi…

Gaming operators are responsible for protecting and ensuring the safety of millions of paying customers. While online gaming can be fun and enjoyable, all too often it leads to addiction and debt. As the online gaming industry grows, so too does the social problems related to it.

Sports betting is now one of the most popular ways for young people to identify with professional sports, and its essential that online sportsbooks and casinos provide their clients with valuable resources and advice to prevent gambling addiction.

By late Friday night, the optimism of the new year mightve taken hold.

Maybe the Southern Kings wouldve pulled off a massive coup last night in their first Pro14 game of 2018 by beating Edinburgh on their home turf.

If that has happens, they wouldve finally snapped a 10-match losing streak.

But it probably wont because the unfortunate Kings are poster boys for some of the biggest ills plaguing South African rugby.

And by all accounts that means that Deon Davids charges wont be winning anything meaningful anytime soon.

Ironically, much of the franchises troubles isnt their fault at all.

In fact, most of the blame should be laid at administrators doors.

The Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) started the rot …

A man who threw packages of drugs over the wall into Lincoln Prison has been jailed for two years.

Charles Smith was caught on CCTV security cameras as he threw two packages containing cocaine, ecstasy and synthetic cannabis.

Andrew Scott, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court that one of the packages was found by a member of staff and the other was handed to staff by a prisoner.

Mr Scott said: The police had set up cameras around the prison to capture this type of activity.

Smith was filmed walking down the access road at the side of the prison. He stepped back and threw a package over the wall. 20 seconds later he threw another package over the wall.

Most of the counties in Kansas are offering to pay off up to 20 percent (or up to $15,000 over five years) of the student debt of new residents who hold college degrees, according to CNBC. To qualify for the recruitment perk, which the Kansas Department of Commerce is administering to help give a boost to rural areas, applicants must have an employer or county “sponsor” that agrees to match half of the repayment. So far 58 employers are participating. The state has received 3,400 applications, CNBC reports, with one-third coming from out of state.
