A federal grand jury has opened a criminal inquiry into the $1 billion collapse of First NBC Bank, a onetime darling of the New Orleans business community that failed earlier this year and was seized by regulators in the costliest collapse of an American bank since the height of the 2008-10 financial crisis, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the probe.
The grand jury has begun issuing subpoenas, the sources said.

Private power producer Ind Bharath Group has filed an insolvency petition against the States power utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) for non-payment of dues of over 700 crore under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

New Delhi, Aug 31 () The NCLT has so far decided more than 655 cases under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code while all efforts are made to stick to the timelines, the tribunal’s President Justice M M Kumar said today.
The Code, which provides for a market-determined and time-bound resolution of insolvency proceedings, became operational in December 2016.
A case is taken up for resolution under the Code only after getting clearance from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and subsequently, an insolvency professional is appointed.
