Received a Winding Up Order

It goes without saying that in a number of industry sectors, small businesses are “doing it tough” in Zetland

When you would think that some compassion and assistance may be offered, the tax office and government bodies in Zetland continue to be more aggressive by applying for company wind-up orders through the courts.

Once a company in has received a winding up order in Zetland the director must act quickly. Although the options are limited, one option is to place the company into voluntary administration.

Some recent data gathered from court insolvency records by suggests that 46% of wind-up order applications in insolvency cases between November 2016 and June 2017 came from the ATO, while 19% came from other government sources.

According to this data, over the past six months, 616 of the 1,391 companies that were liquidated as a result of a wind-up application came about after action from the tax office, while 289 companies were liquidated after action from a government agency.

Combined, 65% of liquidations that resulted from wind-up actions over the past six months involved a government body or the tax office, according to the collated statistics.

The ATO has previously stated that while the preference is to help companies address their tax debts in the first instance, it is prepared to move in on companies that don’t address unpaid debts in due time.

“For the minority of companies that don’t promptly address their tax debt, we take timely stronger action. This can include wind-up proceedings.”

So far this August, the ATO has made 142 applications to wind up companies, compared with 165 applications from other government bodies.

In August of 2016, the tax office applied to wind-up 257 companies, while there were 300 applications from government bodies.

At Insolvency Guardian we have seen the ATO maintaining an aggressive push on those companies that fail to meet their obligations. Of all the winding up orders issued, the ATO has the largest percentage of orders granted.

LONDON, Aug 23 (Reuters) – Royal Bank of Scotland has settled a legal case with a businessman who alleged that the bank caused his business to go bankrupt after forcing him to take out interest-rate hedging products while manipulating the benchmark.

Stuart Wall had been suing the state-backed bank in a claim worth about 670 million pounds ($857.27 million) after the demise of his Opal Property Group, which collapsed into administration in 2013.

“The action has been settled without any admission of liability by the bank,” Wall’s lawyers Hausfeld said in a statement. “The terms of the settlement are confidential.”

RBS issued an identical statement.

Wall had previously alleged his business was mis-sold interest-rate swaps and was also …

TWENTY-SIX stranded Melbourne seniors have been given a $25,000 lifeline from an Airlie Beach business owner after the sudden collapse of their tour operator.

Customers of Victorian-based companies Seniors Coach Tours, Young at Heart Holidays and Australian Air Holidays were told on Monday their trips had been cancelled because the parent company had gone into administration.

Returning from a trip to Hamilton Island, midway through what was supposed to be the holiday of a lifetime, the group was told by their coach driver to fend for themselves.

In stepped John Carey, owner of Colonial Palms Motor Inn, who put the despairing seniors up free of charge, including meals and transport to their flight on Thursday.

I have always thought that education should be free. For Britain to become the template of modernity in a fast-changing globalised world, we need a highly skilled and educated workforce. So asking young people to take on huge amounts of debt to help secure our collective future seems unfair. Asking them to take on huge amounts of debt to pay for the bloated pay of senior university staff is therefore entirely unacceptable.

That is why I resigned from the advisory board of the University of Bath yesterday. As the MP for Bristol North West I represent many current and future Bath students and their families, which is why I held the ex officio role to begin with. Students take on tens of thousands of pounds of debt to pay for their edu…

“Tennis is a matter of the heart for me. It is what I can do best,” Becker told reporters. “I don’t need to talk about my achievements as a player and I am proud of my accomplishments as coach.

Shares in liver cancer treatment developer Sirtex Medical have plunged after it ended a challenging year with a $26.3 million loss.

Sirtex said a previously announced $90.5 million writedown in the value of its clinical and research and development assets led to the loss, along with restructuring costs.

Sirtex said it had a 5.4 per cent lift in global sales of doses of its core technology, a radiation therapy for liver cancer.
