OLYMPIA Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced today that Lake Oswego, Ore.-based Aequitas Capital Management must provide nearly 2,000 Washington student loan borrowers more than $7 million in debt relief.
A motion was filed in federal court today that, when approved, will allow Ferguson to file an assurance of discontinuance forcing the investment management firm to reduce, and in some cases eliminate, private student loan debt it manages for former students of for-profit Corinthian Colleges.
Aequitas exploited the broken promises that Corinthian made to Washington students, Ferguson said. These student borrowers deserve relief.

The student loan debt crisis has become one of the big moral and political quandaries of our age. 44 million Americans owe over $1.4 trillion in total debt, which is almost double that of total U.S. credit card debt. Even worse, those in debt are young, productive Americans who have to deal with this burden instead of purchasing homes or other investments which would further help the American economy. Even young accountants can find themselves struggling under the pile of such debt.
Individuals looking to ease their debt burden can find countless articles on the Internet describing ways to relieve their debt payment, but there is no substitution for professional expertise and advice. This is where CPAs can step in. By offe…

A person who has to receive a payment from an insolvent company can now seek the claim under the insolvency law as the revised regulations have enabled owners of undelivered flats to get relief.
Till now, only financial and operational creditors were permitted to seek claims under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
The revised regulations come at a time when a large number of flat buyers have been left in the lurch, especially in the National Capital Region (NCR), due to long delay in deliveries amid the developers citing fund crunch.
