A Royal Caribbean cruise passenger is now facing federal charges after authorities say he jumped overboard in Puerto Rico to avoid paying off thousands in gambling losses.
According to CBS News, Jey Gonzalez-Diaz boarded the Rhapsody of the Seas in San Juan on August 31. When the ship returned from Barbados on September 7, investigators say he leapt into the water around 9:15 AM while U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were conducting inspections as passengers disembarked.
Surveillance footage captured the moment, and a passerby on a jet ski pulled Gonzalez-Diaz to shore. Agents later found him near the Puerto Rico Capitol with $14,600 in cash, two cell phones and five different IDs, court documents state.
