A passenger on a cruise ship has been accused of jumping overboard with $14,600 in cash after racking up thousands in gambling losses on the ship, according to federal prosecutors.

Jey Xander Omar Gonzalez-Diaz was arrested on Sunday in San Juan, Puerto Rico, after being apprehended by passersby on jet-skis, according to a criminal complaint.

Newsweek contacted Royal Caribbean Group and the man’s attorney for comment via email on Thursday.

A Gambler Jumped Off a Cruise Ship to Avoid His Debt, and Now Owes 15 Times as Much.

 

 

If you’re a bad gambler . . . you’re probably a bad criminal too.

 

 

A man jumped off a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in Puerto Rico last weekend, because he wanted to skip out on a gambling debt of $16,710.24 that he’d run up at the casino on the ship.

 

 

He was caught on surveillance camera jumping into the water near the shore, where he was picked up by people on jet skis.

 

 

The authorities didn’t have any trouble tracking him down. He was arrested . . . and is now facing $250,000 in fines, and up to five years in prison. 

 

 

So yeah, he thought he could slip out on his tab unnoticed, and now he owes around 15-times…
