The Albanese government’s promise to cut HECS-HELP debt will help get more people into homes sooner.
As part of its election promises, the Labor government has cut all HECS-HELP student debt by 20 per cent.
This totals around $16 billion in debt for more than three million Australians.
The relief will help students pay off their debts sooner and better qualify for a loan, assisting more young Aussies into home ownership.
On top of these changes are the recent removal of $3 billion worth of debt through the government’s changes to cap the indexation applied to student loans to the lower of the Wage Price Index or the Consumer Price Index. This means that indexation will never be higher than the…

Brisbane-based XL Express, which went into voluntary administration in late June, has now gone into liquidation with more than $40 million in estimated debts.
XL Express appointed FTI Consulting on June 27 to conduct an “urgent assessment” of the company’s viability, which also includes 17 other entities under the company’s brand.
The group’s 200 employees were stood down after XL Express was locked out of its Smithfield premises in Sydney’s west in late June, due to rent not being paid, according to its administrators
An ASIC notice on Monday, August 4, confirmed creditors had voted to wind up the 17 associated companies under the XL Express…
Counsel assisting the coroner Stephanie Clancy said Hudson had received a gift of $2000 from his mother for his 18th birthday, and during this trip Baker observed that he was unusually quiet.
“When she asked him what was wrong, Kyle told her that he lost all his money and that he wanted to die,” Clancy told the court.
“Ashley says this was a really unusual thing for Kyle to say. She believes this was Kyle’s first significant loss, and was when his habit turned bad.”
Clancy told the hearing there was no evidence that Hudson was experiencing any significant stress related to his university studies or his casual retail job in the months before his death.
He also had a loving and supportive family and partner who were left devastated…

The number of UK construction companies in ‘critical’ distress, a more severe category indicating potential insolvency, was 6,999 – an increase of 15.8% on a year before.
A meltdown in Mānuka honey processing is continuing through winter with the recent liquidation and receivership of two major operators adding to a roll call of casualties in the sector’s premium honey product market.
In late July King Honey Limited and King Honey Holdings were placed into liquidation and receivership.
The closures came as King’s NZX-listed parent company Me Today – which acquired the company for $36 million in 2021 – failed to make a profit for the fifth consecutive year since listing.
The liquidation puts the company’s 70-plus staff out of work and its 18,000 hive operation across the North Island and upper South Island wound down. About 440 tonnes of…

A group offering debt advice to individuals and households in Newton Abbot has received £300,000 National Lottery funding to continue its support service.
The debt advice sessions – which started in 2020 when a need for support was identified – are run by Newton Abbot CIC and Buckland Support and they are held at The Buckland Centre in the town.
Yvonne Cogavin, coordinator for Buckland Support, said the money would keep them going for the next five years.
“There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done, a lot of people that need to be helped and it enables us to look at what need is out there, set up more groups and…
