Bowen Coking Coal has entered voluntary administration, a move that has heightened concerns regarding the future of the coal industry in Queensland, Australia, and the security of more than 500 jobs at the Burton Mine near Moranbah.

The company had previously sought a royalty deferral from the Queensland Revenue Office, which was rejected on 29 July.

Mark Holland and Shaun Fraser of McGrathNicol Restructuring have been named the voluntary administrators.

“The administration process is expected to provide a window which will allow for a sale or recapitalisation to be completed,” the company said in a stock exchange filing.

Bowen Coking Coal has attributed the introduction of Queensland’s high royalty rates, peaking at…

HARTFORD, CT — A bipartisan group of Connecticut legislators, state officials and advocates is seeking ways to provide relief for the more than 500,000 state residents burdened by student loan debt.

State Rep. Corey Paris, D-Stamford, co-chair of the Relief for Connecticut Borrowers Working Group, said the state had to step in to aid the half million student loan recipients in Connecticut, as the federal government has basically abdicated on the issue.

“We’re trying to not just gather ideas or understand facts and figures around the crisis as it is today,…

The Federal Government has fired the starter’s gun on the business schedule for the new parliament by introducing its legislation to cut student debt.

Labor’s bill seeks to cut 20 per cent off all higher education student debts, with the aim to wipe away more than $16 billion for about three million Australians.

It’s likely to pass with little trouble, as both the Opposition and the Greens have signalled enough initial support for it to get up when it arrives in the Senate.

The government won’t need any help to have it first pass the House of Representatives.

Anthony Albanese said the aim of the bill was to deliver cost of…

Commercial judge removes diligence warrant in dispute between subsidiaries of offshore plc over insolvency risk

A commercial judge has recalled a warrant for diligence on the dependence by arrestment and inhibition granted based on an action raised in England by a Scottish offshore company after finding that there was no real or substantial risk that justified the warrant’s continuation.

James Fisher Offshore Ltd, the respondent to the petition raised by Mermaid Subsea Services UK Ltd, argued that its updated 2024 accounts and commitments made by its parent company had ameliorated the petitioner’s concerns about its financial position. The petitioner contended that the…
