Medical debt is a top barrier to financial well-being, and the Indiana General Assembly this year decided to convene a summer committee to study the problem. That news was welcomed by the Indiana Community Action Poverty Institute.
With a grant from the Health Foundation of LaPorte, the institute is offering two virtual workshops over Zoom, July 30 and Aug. 7, to make sure people know their rights when it comes to medical debt.
Lauren Murfree is a policy analyst with the institute. She says there…
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — More than 7,200 Kalamazoo County residents have had their medical debt relieved.
The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners invested $100,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to partner with Undue Medical Debt, a nonprofit that buys and forgives medical debt.
“Medical debt is not only a stressor and a barrier to people, but it can have an impact to keep people from delaying care, and that sometimes can have life changing consequences.” said Jen Strebs, Kalamazoo County Commissioner.
That investment helped erase close to $2.5 million in medical debt for eligible Kalamazoo residents. County officials say recipients were identified automatically through provider and credit data based on income level and amount…

In a regulatory filing on Friday, Reliance Infrastructure said that NCLAT has stayed an NCLT order over an appeal filed by it.
Earlier on May 30 this year, the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) directed the initiation the corporate insolvency resolution process and appointment of an interim resolution professional against Reliance Infrastructure.

Despite hit songs, sold-out tours and millions of sold albums, many famous rock stars have found themselves facing bankruptcy.
When fans envision a rock star lifestyle, it usually involves sprawling mansions, fast cars and endless nights of partying. What often gets overlooked is the cost of such extravagances. Lavish lifestyles don’t come cheap, the IRS is always looking to get its share and the only people who are (arguably) more persistent than Uncle Sam are drug dealers.
The company is selling its remaining inventory to pay off millions in debt, court papers said.
(Sheila R. McCann |The Salt Lake Tribune) Signs in the windows of the Sundance Catalog Outlet in Salt Lake City advertise the company’s closing sale.
The going-out-of-business sign apparently is up at Sundance Living, the apparel and household decor catalog business, after mounting financial pressure from artisans who say the brand owes them more than $2 million.
On Thursday, the company, formerly known as Sundance Catalog, advertised a “CLOSING SALE” on its website, saying, “Everything Must Go.”At the outlet in Salt Lake City’s Sugar House neighborhood, signs proclaimed, “Entire store on sale!”
Loch Lomond Seaplanes cancelled all its flights and issued a message on its website in April to confirm it had ceased trading.
A pop-up message on the website, which is still available, states: “Please be advised that Loch Lomond Seaplanes has ceased trading. If you have tickets or a flight booked then someone will be in touch in the near future.”
The company was founded in 2003 by David West, who offered regular flights between Loch Lomond and the Isle of Skye.
It can now be revealed that Kenneth Robert Craig, practitioner at insolvency firm Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, was appointed as the liquidator for Loch Lomond Seaplanes on June 4 following a petition by HMRC.
