Three million Australians will see $3 billion wiped from their student debt after the Albanese Government passed legislation through the Parliament tonight.
This legislation fixes the way indexation is calculated on student debt and will be backdated to 1 June 2023.
The Universities Accord (Student Support and Other Measures) Bill 2024 caps the HELP indexation rate to the lower of either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or the Wage Price Index (WPI).
This change applies to HELP, VET Student Loan, Australian Apprenticeship Support Loan and other student support loans.
This will benefit all Australians with a student debt, fixing last year’s spike in the indexation of 7.1 per cent and…

Instead, it was found that they had received a fraudulent payment request from a third party designed to look like a legitimate request from the existing investee company at the time of an expected drawdown of funds, NTMA Chief Executive Frank O’Connor said at a news conference.
ISIF, which invests in companies…

“The kids of today” is often said with a sigh – but perhaps it’s time to rethink that. According to Sanlam’s 2025 Credit Confidence Index, Gen Z’s appetite for early credit education puts it ahead of Millennials and Gen X, and they may be the generation to help rewrite South Africa’s credit story.
Right now, that story reads more like a financial horror. DebtBusters’ Q1 2025 Debt Index shows a record number of South Africans relying on personal and payday loans to get by. Sweden is preparing to introduce a far-reaching ban on gambling with credit in a move aimed at protecting consumers and promoting a more sustainable gaming environment. Under the newly proposed legislation, gambling operators and agents licensed in Sweden would be strictly prohibited from accepting any bets financed with borrowed money, whether through credit cards or third-party credit providers.
Expanding the scope of existing restrictions:
The proposed changes build on the current Gambling Act, which already restricts certain credit-based transactions but has, according to the government, left significant gaps that enable players to gamble with credit from sources outside the scope of regulated operators.
