Irish renewable energy developer Solar 21 has said it will “vigorously” defend itself against a petition that a group of investors presented to the High Court earlier this week to wind up two of its subsidiaries.

The two entities – EFW 21 Renewable Energy (Project 2) Ireland Ltd and EFW 21 Renewable Energy (Project 2) Ltd – raised money from Irish investors through unregulated loan notes to fund the construction of an energy-to-waste plant in the UK.

The companies later selected lands at Seal Sands on the River Tees in Yorkshire as the site for what became known as the Teeside Project or Project 2.

Earlier this week, three Irish investors in the project submitted a petition to the High Court to have the two development companies…

The law also introduces borrowing caps for graduate and professional degree students ($20,500 annually, $100,000 lifetime) and parents taking out loans to assist with a child’s education ($20,000 per year, $65,000 per child).

Student loan experts worry these caps will push more borrowers toward private lenders, which charge higher interest rates, offer less favorable terms and don’t qualify for any income-driven repayment or forgiveness programs.

“You’re pushing people into the private student loan market and away from safe federal student loans with good consumer protections,” said Pierce.

According to Jonathan Glater, H.R.1 does nothing to address why student debt became a crisis in the first place: skyrocketing college…

PUTRAJAYA: Those who are found guilty of corruption should be declared bankrupt to stop them from enjoying stolen public funds, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner proposed such a firm approach as part of the anti-graft body’s measure to intensify efforts to recover misappropriated national assets.

“As I have frequently mentioned, these offenders are those who steal the country’s wealth. They must be punished, and these assets must be returned to the people.

“I have said before that we need to bankrupt them so they cannot enjoy what they have stolen.

“The efforts to trace and recover the nation’s…

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has ordered all licensed banks to extend temporary debt relief and new credit support to individuals and businesses hit by the recent cyclonic and flood disasters.

Under Circular No. 04 of 2025, affected borrowers can request assistance until 15 January 2026. Banks may suspend repayments for up to six months and must cap new loan rates at 9% for facilities up to two years. All late fees, cheque return charges and penal interest must be suspended until 31 January 2026.

CBSL also directed banks not to reject new loans solely due to CRIB records and to clearly communicate restructuring terms. Monthly reporting to CBSL begins end-December.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said more aggressive investigations will be carried out to ensure that people with power, influence, or wealth are not beyond the reach of the law.
PETALING JAYA:

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki today called for those found guilty of corruption to be declared bankrupt.

Azam said MACC will focus on more aggressive investigations into high-profile and large-scale cases next year to ensure that people with power, influence, or wealth are not beyond the reach of the law.

MACC would intensify its asset recovery efforts throughout next year in line with its strategy to minimise leakages and ensure that corrupt persons cannot benefit from their ill-gotten gains.

“Those…

Australian luxury off-road caravan manufacturer Zone RV has been placed into voluntary administration this week.

Zone Manufacturing, the manufacturer of Zone RV caravans, announced on December 1 it had been placed into voluntary administration, with Cor Cordis being appointed as administrator.

Federal member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien has shared information on the news, with Zone RV being one of the Sunshine Coast’s largest employers with a headcount of 280 people and $70 million annual turnover according to Cor Cordis.

“Evidently, this is an incredibly difficult situation and the effects will be wide-ranging for employees, customers and their suppliers,” O’Brien says.

“More information will be available at the first…

Annette Menzies, Glasgow-based business recovery partner at Dains Accountants, has been appointed interim liquidator of Euthenia Products Ltd.

The appointment, effective 20 October 2025, follows a petition submitted to the court by HM Revenue & Customs earlier in the month seeking the compulsory winding up of the company.

Euthenia Products Ltd, which traded as Euro Precision, was a Glenrothes-based engineering firm serving the aerospace and defence sectors. The company ceased trading on 30 September 2025 after failing to secure a viable buyer, resulting in the redundancy of all 28 employees.

Since her appointment, Ms Menzies has taken control of the company’s 30,000 sq ft…
