Australians with student loan debt will benefit from “commonsense” changes to regulations to help them buy a home, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has announced.
In a joint release with Housing Minister Clare O’Neil, Education Minister Jason Clare, and Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones, Chalmers confirmed earlier reports that the government had spoken with regulators about updating their home loan guidelines around HELP debts, including HECS.
They also said they had taken action to loosen the reins on unit block construction.
