(TNND) — As Congress hashes out spending and tax cuts, a new survey from the Cato Institute shows widespread public support for shrinking the scope of the federal government.
Americans estimate that the government wastes 59 cents of every dollar it spends, according to the survey published Thursday by the libertarian-leaning think tank.
And over three-quarters of Americans believe the federal government spends too much money.
“There’s kind of an all-time high level of frustration with government waste,” said Emily Ekins, director of polling at Cato. “But how do you go about bringing it under control? And there really are true disagreements and divisions about how you best address it.”
