Since 2020, a rising proportion of clients at StepChange Scotland are in full-time employment, now at 42%, an increase from 38%, according to data.
Of those seeking help, some 68% are behind on essential household bills, research showed.
The report found a 65% increase in average arrears which increased by more than £2,000 to £5,193 per client, more than double the £2,302 owed in 2020.
