The Electric City Food Co-op, a decade-long initiative to establish a community-owned grocery store in downtown Schenectady, is nearing its goal of opening by mid-spring to early summer 2026. The co-op, which began its journey in 2013, is seeking additional financial support to meet its $1.35 million target to open debt-free. “If we’re successful in this, in addition to all the money that we’ve gotten from the city, the county, the $2.1 million that we’ve gotten from the Ag and Mark branch, this will bridge the gap to get us to construction,” said Adine Viscusi, a board member of the co-op.
