SANTA FE – Nearly 400 teachers in New Mexico will receive student loan forgiveness this year through the state’s Teacher Loan Repayment Program.
The program, which began in 2013, awarded funding to 387 new teachers, adding to the 529 already benefiting. It offers licensed New Mexico teachers up to $6,000 annually in student loan repayment for a two-year commitment to serve in the state.
The program focuses on teachers high-need areas like STEM, bilingual education, and schools serving low-income families. It is supported by a $4.92 million appropriation for Fiscal Year 2026.
