The last time the federal government was free of debt was during the administration of Andrew Jackson. If you have forgotten your American history, that was 1835. The federal debt is currently larger than the gross annual product of all goods and services in the country.
Debt service is one of the largest items in the federal budget. And we’re just paying interest. The principal keeps getting larger because the government continues to run a deficit. Cutting taxes is good politics but bad policy. And war is expensive. Very expensive. We need peace, prosperity, and higher taxes. I would vote for that.
