The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) on Tuesday issued a consumer alert warning that fraudulent emails impersonating licensed moneylenders are spreading, luring victims with promises of debt forgiveness in exchange for cryptocurrency transfers.
According to the FSS, hackers recently breached the systems of several moneylending firms and have since been sending emails to customers under the guise of “compensation for personal data breaches.” The hackers, posing as the lenders, are telling customers that their debts will be forgiven if they transfer cryptocurrency.
