A major food wholesaler has collapsed after 35 years in business. A total of 71 people have lost their jobs after Enterprise Foods Limited, which traded as Localist, went bust.
The East Kilbride-based company helped Scottish suppliers, producers, and farmers get their goods onto the shelves of retailers such as Waitrose, Co-op, Poundland, and Morrisons. The business fell into difficulty after failing to refinance debts of more than £5million, amid cash-flow problems that had built up over several years.
These were linked to debts following the failure of numerous customers, and were worsened by challenging market conditions in both the retail and hospitality sectors. This has left 250 local suppliers up and down the UK uncertain about…
