Foreign aid disbursement and commitments to Bangladesh have fallen significantly behind annual targets in the current fiscal year, even as the country’s foreign debt repayment continues to increase, according to an Economic Relations Division (ERD) report released today (24 May).
The target was set at $7.868 billion. However, in the first ten months of the fiscal year (July-April), only $4.236 billion has been disbursed, which is 53.84% of the total target.
Compared to the last fiscal year, aid disbursement has decreased by 18%. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, development partners had disbursed $5.128 billion.
