Trump, don’t stop Head Start
Please do not stop Head Start (“Trump Administration moves ahead with Head Start overhaul,” Aug. 7).
Head Start usually services children who may be living in a home that is struggling to meet basic needs. We give them food –—- breakfast, lunch and a snack –—- in a place where every day it is safe and structured. We also provide the basic developmental skills of social and emotional learning, fine and gross motor skills and the beginning of the ability to read and write.
For the parents, we make ourselves available to work through any concerns they may have about their child. We can direct them to services they may need.
Class size is currently set at 18. That is usually 18 4- and 5-year-olds,…
