LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — Gov. Andy Beshear signed an executive order Tuesday that will provide relief for 130,000 Kentuckians saddled with medical debt.
Beshear established the Team Kentucky Medical Debt Relief Program, which will allocate $2.5 million to the national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. The organization purchases debt from participating hospitals and collection agencies at a steep discount, yielding an estimated $100 in debt relief for every $1 invested by the state.
