Thousands of unpaid carers are set to see their financial burdens eased as the Government begins wiping away historical debts. The move follows a comprehensive review into “confusing” rules that left many families struggling with unexpected repayments.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed it will reassess approximately 200,000 cases where carers were penalised for accidentally overearning. Experts estimate that 25,000 people will benefit from having their debts reduced or entirely written off, with some even receiving refunds for past payments.
