Dozens of runners gathered at Carrboro High School on Jan. 31 for a unique 5K trail race designed to tackle one of the biggest financial challenges facing young Americans: student loan debt.
The Race to Erase Student Debt was organized by Carrboro native Max Cline and offered participants a chance to run for a cause — and possibly leave with thousands of dollars toward their student loans.
Participants paid $35 to enter the race, and the combined entry fees — along with donations and sponsorship funds — were pooled together and awarded through a raffle to one runner to help pay off their student debt.
