Millions of Australians will soon receive a text message from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) advising that the 20 per cent cut to their HECS debt has been processed. Now, the tax office is urging people to make sure they have one key detail up to date.
The HECS debt reduction will be backdated to June 1, 2025, which means anyone who has paid off their loan since then will in line for a refund. The ATO has sent out reminders for Aussies to make sure their bank details are up to date to ensure “faster processing” of the refunds.
