RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – No student ever wants to find themselves in lunch debt.
It’s been an issue for many schools in the U.S for years now, with the Douglas School District being no exception.
The district currently finds itself with a negative meal balance of more than $8,000.
To help them remedy the debt, they utilize their “Angel Fund,” which helps families dealing with negative lunch accounts.
The problem is that the balance of the “Angel Fund” is currently very low.
The fund is supported by families who move out of the district and decide to give their remaining meal balances to help those in need.
Local businesses are also encouraged to provide relief by making group donations.
