Government set to change laws to help claim back welfare overpayments

People rorting the welfare system have been getting off scot free with the Government claiming it would cost more to chase the welfare debt rather than to simply waive it.
So, theyve instead written off the staggering $76 Million in welfare overpayments.
Reports claim the Department of Human Services overpaid 1.5 million people a total of $1.5 Billion during 2015 and 2016, but managed to claw back $920 million by stripping money owed from social security payments or tax refunds.
The government declared the reason it didnt bother chasing the debt is because it was not cost effective to pursue.
