LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) – Lewis County is about to have millions of dollars of debt disappear. It comes as the county and Lewis County Health come to an agreement after the hospital loaned the county money in 2018.
The county and its hospital share a unique relationship – one of only two of its kind in New York state.
“It is a county-owned hospital. We have a good relationship with the hospital because it is an entity of ours and we do loan money back and forth,” said Tim Hunt, county manager.
A recent example: the hospital loaned the county $6 million in 2018 to help build the Jefferson Community College Education Center.
Hunt says the money was well spent.
