LEXINGTON, Ky. — Thousands of Lexington residents are receiving letters notifying them their medical debt has been wiped away through a city-funded relief program.
The nonprofit Undue Medical Debt announced a third round of medical debt relief in partnership with Lexington, eliminating nearly $5 million in debt for more than 2,100 residents.
The latest round brings the total debt forgiven through the program to more than $23 million for nearly 12,000 Lexington people.
“We are hoping that this debt relief is a reset for a lot of folks — to get them into a better position to take care of themselves,” said Dan Wu, vice mayor.
