COLUMBIA- The Columbia Public Schools (CPS) finance committee met Tuesday afternoon to discuss an influx of donations to its Lunch for Learners fund.
In 2010, CPS launched the Lunch for Learners donation fund, which families can use to help pay for their unpaid lunch debt if they don’t qualify for free or reduced-priced meals through the National School Lunch Program.
The fund has recently received an influx of donations after the public learned of the CPS debt balance. There had previously been about $5,000 in the fund but right now, it holds around $75,000.
