Under-pressure families have been plunged into rent arrears in Cambridge with a massive increase in residents struggling to pay up.
Council chiefs have pointed to changes in the benefits system for the increase in families in difficulties with debt – but do offer help.
In 2013, Cambridge City Council had 565 homes in arrears a number which has steadily increased. It reached 845 in 2015 and 641 from January to October last year, according to data released using freedom of information laws.
Housing bosses have rounded on the introduction of Universal Credit for the increase in council house rent debt.
