FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) – Millions in medical debt is planned to be wiped out for certain Flint residents after the city council passed a highly-anticipated proposal.
Leaders say Undue Medical Debt, the organization behind the program, has worked with more than 300 medical providers to eliminate over $14 billion in medical debt nationally since 2014.
“Medical debt is not the result of poor planning or financial incompetence. It most often results from bad luck, health emergencies, unexpected charges, denied claims,” said Lisa Pasbjerg, a Flint resident and activist.
Some financial relief could be coming soon.
