Whitmer announces $74 million in medical debt relief for nearly 72,000 Michiganders.
More than $74 million in medical debt will be wiped away for nearly 72,000 Michigan residents under the latest round of a state-backed debt forgiveness program aimed at helping families struggling with healthcare costs.
The debt relief, announced Monday by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, is being delivered through a partnership between the state and national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. Officials said recipients do not need to take any action. They will receive letters beginning this week informing them their qualifying debt has been forgiven.
