The University of Pretoria (UP) has launched a R50 million fundraising campaign aimed at clearing the historical debt that prevents hundreds of qualifying graduates from accessing the degree certificates they have already earned.
The three-year initiative, called Degrees Delivered, will run from 2026 to 2028 and seeks to settle outstanding student debt for graduates who have successfully completed all academic requirements but remain unable to collect their certificates because of unpaid fees.
Without those certificates, many graduates are unable to secure employment, register with professional bodies or continue with postgraduate studies, despite having met every academic requirement for their qualifications.
