Nigeria’s successful negotiation of about $30 billion in Paris Club debt relief was made possible not only by difficult economic reforms but also by a deliberate effort to explain those policies to Nigerians in clear, simple language, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said.
Speaking in Abuja at the public presentation of The Pain and the Promise, a new book by communications strategist Paul Nwabuikwu, Okonjo-Iweala said public understanding and trust were essential to the success of the economic reform programme carried out during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
