The higher you climb, the further you have to fall, as the saying goes. Pramod Mittal, the 64-year-old brother of Lakshmi Mittal, the head of Arcelor Mittal steel, and 19th richest man in the UK, has been declared bankrupt with debts of 130 million, according to reports in The Times. He is reportedly suffering financially after becoming caught up in investigations into organised crime.
The two brothers have been estranged for some time, after 70-year-old Lakshmi split off the international arm of the family’s steel empire, against their father’s wishes. He will reportedly not bail out his sibling, despite the potential damage to the family name.
