GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — 36% of American households are dealing with debt from medical care.
That’s a big number, impacting a lot of people.
A group of northern Michigan students is stepping up to try and help some strangers get relief.
Sara Bernstein, a teacher at North Ed Career Tech explains what sparked the fundraiser involving Health Science students.
“I found this nonprofit called Undo Medical Debt and it is run by former debt collecting CEOs. So they’ve taken everything they know about buying up bundles of debt for pennies on the dollar. They take donations, they buy up the debt, but then instead of aggressively pursuing the debt for collection, they forgive it,” said Bernstein.
