MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Greater Memphis Financial Empowerment Center and Rise Memphis have helped nearly 2,400 people eliminate more than $8 million in non-mortgage debt, according to the organizations.
The center, a partnership between the Shelby County Trustee’s office and non-profit Rise Memphis, has been operating for nearly seven years. It offers free, one-on-one sessions with professional financial counselors to any Shelby County resident.
The $8 million figure was reached as of the end of February 2026 — just six months after the program hit a previous milestone of $7.1 million in debt reduction.
