A veteran fraudulently claimed and then sold the medals of Second World War heroes to pay off his gambling debts, a court heard.
David Stewart, 61, spent a decade using 16 deceased airmen’s names to make fraudulent applications to the Ministry of Defence medal office for decorations, before selling them.
Stewart, a former soldier from Cilgerran, Cardigan, served in Northern Ireland and the Gulf War but fell into serious gambling debt before turning to fraud, Swansea Crown Court was told.
In each application, he would claim to be a relative of the dead airmen to claim medals due to the family.
