Johannesburg – The Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) on Thursday called on the JSE to provide R1bn in debt relief to help poor students who are unable to afford education.
“We want to lead a charge to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange to ask what they are doing to contribute to free education for the poor in South Africa,” Congress of SA Students general secretary Khulekani Skosana told reporters at ANC headquarters Luthuli House.
The PYA is made up of Cosas, Sasco, the YCLSA and the ANCYL.
Skosana said they no longer wanted an FNB Stadium, but an FNB University. Banks should give poor students bursaries. Foreigners who owned shops in townships should contribute to free education, he said.
