Insolvency-related activity rose again in Wiltshire, Berkshire and the South East last month, says R3, the UK’s restructuring, turnaround and insolvency trade body.

R3’s analysis of data provided by Creditsafe indicated an increase in insolvency-related activities from 187 in September to 210 in October.

This represents a 12.3 per cent monthly increase although October’s figure is also 28.3 per cent below the same period, which experienced a spike, in 2024.

The figures include administrator and liquidator appointments together with creditors’ meetings.

Entertainment group and former Cathay Cineplexes operator mm2 Asia on Monday (Nov 10) said that United Overseas Bank (UOB) had sent letters demanding repayment of S$74.6 million (US$57 million) from the company and its subsidiaries. 

The letters were sent to mm2 Asia and its subsidiaries mm2 Entertainment, UnUsUaL Management, mm Plus and mm Connect on Nov 7, the company said in a filing on the Singapore Exchange.If the debt is not repaid within seven days, UOB may commence legal proceedings without further reference, the letters stated.

The letters of demand follow millions of dollars in repayment demands from landlords over the now-closed cinema chain Cathay Cineplexes.

Sonder Holdings Inc., a boutique apartment rental company, said it’s going to file bankruptcy after the cash-strapped company lost a key partnership with Marriott International.

The firm will wind down operations immediately through a Chapter 7 liquidation of its US business, according to a Monday statementBloomberg Terminal.
