The Federal Government has called for an urgent action to promote debt relief as a clear path to peace and prosperity and not an act of charity.

President Bola Tinubu made the call in his national statement at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday in New York.

Tinubu, represented by the Vice-President Kashim Shettima, also called for new and binding mechanism to manage sovereign debt.

Founded in 2017 by Dr Clinton Schultz and Lozen McDiarmid, Sobah opened its own brewery on Queensland’s Gold Coast in 2023.

Schultz and McDiarmid created Sobah to celebrate First Nations culture, spark meaningful conversations, and change the way we think about drinking. The company was a Food & Drink Business Rising Star in 2021.

The advanced rating is the second of three levels that firms can achieve through the programme.

The accreditation reflects steps HSBC has taken in recent years, the charity said, including trying out different approaches to debt collection such as reducing the frequency of communications to some customers about debts. Money and Mental Health’s research suggests this could result in reduced stress for customers.

HSBC UK’s “chat with us” function in its app can also identify certain vulnerable situations through the words a customer uses.
